DearlyStory

DearlyStory · Guide

Why use DearlyStory instead of reading aloud, playing an audiobook, or another story app?

Reading aloud yourself is the best option and DearlyStory does not pretend otherwise. It is for the nights you cannot: unlike an audiobook it uses your voice and a story written for your child tonight, and unlike most AI story apps it does not stop at the text. The same story becomes a picture book that reads itself aloud and turns its own pages.

Compared with reading aloud

  • You win. DearlyStory is for travel, night shifts, deployment and the hundredth reading of the same book.
  • When you are there, use it together: the picture book turns its pages while you both look, and Show text lets you read along.

Compared with audiobooks and story podcasts

  • Their voice is a narrator’s; DearlyStory’s is yours, recorded once in about 15 seconds.
  • Their catalogue is fixed; DearlyStory writes a new story from tonight’s idea, and you can edit it.
  • They are audio only; DearlyStory can paint the story as a picture book with pictures to look at.

Compared with other AI story apps

  • Many generate text and stop. DearlyStory narrates in your voice and paints the pages.
  • Consent is built in: you agree before creating a voice that it is yours or one you may use, exported audio starts with a spoken AI notice, and a deleted voice is removed from the server and the speech provider.
  • No ads and no third-party analytics.

What DearlyStory does not do

  • It is not for children to use on their own: accounts are for adults 18 or older.
  • It is not perfect: how close the voice sounds depends on the language and the recording.
  • Creating a voice, writing and new audio need a connection; only saved stories play offline.
  • It is not available in mainland China.

Questions people ask

Is the voice free?

Creating a voice is free, and so is writing a story. Narration and picture books use story coins; new accounts start with 150.

Can I use my own books?

Yes. Photograph a paper picture book or import an EPUB or PDF, and hear it in your voice.

Is it more screen time at bedtime?

Only if you want it to be. Lock the screen and the story keeps playing; the sleep timer stops it.
